In MP’s tribal belt, govt school teachers falter on basic questions
Sidhi: Education is one of the top priorities of the Centre.
Over the past three years, the government has rolled out several schemes for tertiary and senior levels. But are these schemes even reaching the people who are supposed to benefit from them? Are teachers able to deliver on promises and educate their pupils?
Sidhi District is one of the tribal districts of Madhya Pradesh. Upon reaching, two teachers were spotted helping children with their lessons.
But there was something odd. A multiplication table of 13 was written on the blackboard – and it was wrong. When asked about it and then some basic general knowledge trivia questions, it became apparant that common awareness was lacking.
The teachers here could not even answer basic questions about who is the current state governor and the number of districts in the state.
